Frequently Asked Questions

What is metal strut used for?

Metal strut is a modular framing system made of cold-rolled steel. It allows for flexible design choices thanks to bolt-on components and accessories, while its slotted channel design allows for a no-weld construction. Metal strut is often used in commercial and industrial settings to support pipes and equipment or to brace against earthquake movement.

What is manufactured-to-length strut?

Manufactured-to-length strut is strut channel that is cut by the manufacturer to a specific length before shipping. Unlike field-cut strut, manufactured-to-length strut is shear cut on a rolling mill, not with a saw, offering far greater precision for tight tolerances. These custom cuts allow for greater consistency across projects while reducing labor costs and wasted materials, as there’s no need to cut and deburr in the field. Manufactured-to-length strut means installation can begin immediately, speeding up project timelines, too.

What is continuously galvanized strut?

With Gregory Strut’s continuous galvanizing process, steel is zinc-coated before it is roll-formed into shape. It is also sometimes called pre-galvinized strut. Dipping the steel coil in a zinc bath prior to forming the strut results in a smooth and uniform coating of nearly 100% zinc.

How is G-STRUT® different from traditional strut?

G-STRUT® offers metal framing channels that meet or exceed industry standards and are available in an array of standard lengths and finishes. Gregory Strut also offers manufactured-to-length strut in the same high-quality steel, whether you need plain, stainless, pre-galvanized, batch galvanized, or painted finishes. Additionally, G-STRUT® is available in all profile styles, perforations, and weld configurations for a fully customizable support solution.

What industries use Gregory Strut?

Gregory Strut is ideal for a variety of demanding applications for industries including commercial construction, transportation, aviation, manufacturing, and utilities. G-STRUT® conforms to ASTM and DOT standards for metal framing, and because G-STRUT® is made in the USA and sourced from domestic steel, it meets the requirements of the Buy American Act and the ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act).

Is G-STRUT® compatible with standard fittings?

Yes. G-STRUT® metal framing channel is fully compatible with standard strut channel fittings, clamps, and accessories. It’s formed to industry-standard dimensions, so you can use standard fittings as well as Gregory Strut accessories like G-FORCE® hangers, G-STRUT® rooftop components, G-STRUT® All Threaded Rod, and G-STRUT® Seismic components.
